STEPHANIE

Age: 50
Marital Status: Married
Hobbies: Entertaining the grandchildren, eating out, theatre

Stephanie’s story

“I think I’m fairly fit for my age, although I could do with losing a bit of weight. I find work a bit stressful these days, but when I get a day off I love relaxing with my grandchildren. There’s nothing I enjoy more than getting us all together for a big family meal, typically on the weekends – especially a lovely roast chicken or a big cook-up on the barbecue. I think the kitchen is the heart of the house, and eating together is something that really binds us all together.”

“The trouble is, for several months I haven’t been looking forward to family get-togethers because I can’t seem to enjoy my food any more. Several times a week I get heartburn, especially after a big meal or a busy day at work. And I get a horrible sour taste in my mouth after eating chocolate or cakes which used to be a lovely treat.”

“And I really hate it when I get heartburn at night as it’s too uncomfortable to sleep through. I’ve tried antacids and they do work at first, but they wear off so quickly. My mother used to recommend boiled water but that hasn’t helped. I’d really like to find a treatment that would sort it out and let me get back to enjoying life again.”

Pantoloc Control® advice

Stephanie has experienced some relief using antacids but she clearly needs a more long lasting treatment, and one that will provide night-time relief. Her daily life is being disturbed by her heartburn. It is a mistake to think of heartburn as a minor annoyance as it can often seriously affect sufferers’ quality of life.

Many people who suffer heartburn from heartburn experience their symptoms at night-time disturbing their sleep and impairing their ability to function the following day.

Another thing for Stephanie to consider is her weight. Being overweight can increase the chances of getting heartburn so Stephanie should look at her diet and start taking more exercise.
